On December 13, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong signed and issued an official dispatch to the Director of the Department of Health regarding the serious implementation of tasks and solutions to prevent and control measles in the city.
According to the official dispatch, to ensure good implementation of measles prevention and control in the city, the Chairman of the City People's Committee assigned the Director of the Department of Health to preside over and coordinate with heads of relevant agencies, units and localities to seriously implement propaganda and mobilize people to proactively implement measures to prevent and control measles and have their children fully vaccinated on time according to the instructions of the Ministry of Health.
Ensure adequate vaccine sources and carry out measles vaccination for target groups; ensure logistics, medicines, supplies, equipment, and chemicals for measles prevention and control according to regulations.
Closely monitor the measles situation in the city; regularly assess the risk of epidemics; proactively monitor and promptly detect cases of the disease to thoroughly handle outbreaks; prevent spread and outbreaks; effectively treat and care for patients.
Seriously implement tasks and solutions to prevent and control measles according to the direction of the Prime Minister, the Ministry of Health and the City People's Committee; at the same time, strengthen responsibility in inspection and supervision of the implementation of measures to prevent and control measles in the city.
Previously, on December 9, Chairman of Can Tho City People's Committee Tran Viet Truong inspected the work of preventing and fighting measles at Can Tho City Children's Hospital; at the same time, he visited, supported and gave gifts to children with measles in difficult circumstances and the staff of the Department of Infectious Diseases who made efforts in treating children.
According to statistics from Can Tho Children's Hospital, the measles outbreak began in early August with a sudden increase in the number of cases, many severe cases requiring ventilators. Since the beginning of the year, the number of inpatients is 2,385 cases, outpatients is 1,768 cases. On average, the hospital receives 21 inpatients/day, 23 outpatients/day.
Currently, the hospital has more than 30 positive measles cases, more than 190 rash fever cases, plus severe complications requiring ventilators and oxygen. In addition to measles, hand, foot and mouth disease and dengue fever are also complicated.
