Subjectively missing the golden hour for treatment
As in the case of Ms. Nguyen Thi N, nearly 70 years old, residing in Trung Hiep commune, Vinh Long province, who has a history of cardiovascular disease and blood pressure, but has not been regularly monitored and had periodic health check-ups as recommended.
Ms. N said that before getting sick, she often had headaches and body fatigue, but only bought medicine to take sparingly, and did not go to medical facilities for examination to check the cause.
One night, she suddenly became tired and could not move on her own. The family took her to the emergency room in the morning, so she was paralyzed half of her body like now," Ms. N shared.
BS CKI Bui Thi Yen Chi - Stroke Unit, Cardiovascular Department, Vinh Long General Hospital said that many patients show early signs but are still subjective, leading to late hospitalization, reducing the opportunity for effective intervention.
According to her, the "golden hour" in stroke treatment only lasts for the first few hours, if the patient is taken to a medical facility in time, the recovery rate will be higher and sequelae will be significantly limited.
People need to recognize early signs such as crooked mouth, weak limbs, difficulty speaking, then they need to take the patient to the emergency room immediately, not self-treat at home," the doctor added.
Accelerate emergency care, expand treatment
BS.CKII Nguyen Huu Huu - Head of Neurosurgery Department, Head of Stroke Unit of Nguyen Dinh Chieu Hospital said that reality shows that many cases come to the hospital too late for optimal intervention.
According to him, every minute of treatment delay can cause about 2 million brain cells to die, this number shows the danger of stroke and the importance of timely emergency care.
We always advise people not to hesitate, to call emergency services immediately when there are signs of suspected stroke to be treated as quickly as possible," he emphasized.
Ms. Ho Thi Thu Hang - Director of Vinh Long Provincial Department of Health said that the local health sector is implementing many solutions to improve the effectiveness of stroke treatment.
The sector is focusing on investing in improving emergency capacity, expanding the treatment network, and strengthening professional training for doctors and medical staff at all levels.

With urgent and synchronous solutions, the opportunity to save and recover stroke patients is increasingly being clearly improved.
