Doctor passionate about making Tiktok
Many doctors working at public hospitals in big cities and central hospitals have become famous “Digital Content Creators” on Tiktok with hundreds of thousands to millions of followers. Not to mention Master, specialist doctor Nguyen Thanh Tung, specializing in Urology, Department of Surgery, Post Office Hospital.
With over 13 years of experience in the field of Nephrology - Urology, it is impossible to remember the number of lucky patients he has treated. He has made his mark in the field of expertise, being one of the enthusiastic young doctors of the Post Office Hospital. Skilled and experienced, Dr. Tung has treated many difficult cases such as giant coral kidney stones, stones that have caused dangerous complications such as pus retention and kidney failure.
Not only famous at the hospital where he works, Dr. Tung is also known and loved by many people on social networking platforms. On Tiktok, Dr. Tung currently has nearly 250,000 followers and 3.9 million likes on videos sharing medical knowledge. The doctor often shares difficult kidney stone cases, warns and gives useful advice to patients.
In fact, kidney stones are a very common disease and often recur if not examined and treated properly. Dr. Tung chose Tiktok to reach more people, especially those at risk, people with kidney stones.
“At first, patients only knew me when they came to the hospital or clinic, but after using Facebook or Tiktok to share information, I became known to more people. Especially those interested in kidney stones, those at risk of getting or being treated for the disease. The more people follow me, the happier I am because that will spread more medical information that I want to share with the community" - Dr. Tung shared.
Doctor Tung is “passionate” about making Tiktok every day, not to become famous or to polish his image, but he believes that it is the mission of a doctor with the responsibility of educating about health. After stressful working hours, making Tiktok is not only a side job but also a way for doctors to relax and explore their creativity.
Dr. Tung shared that when posting medical information on Tiktok, there will be certain limitations such as lack of detail and minor errors. Tiktok cannot replace a direct examination because the doctor does not have enough medical records, sometimes only ultrasound images, making the consultation not close to the patient's condition.
Another famous “Tiktoker” who regularly shares mental health content on Tiktok, YouTube, and Instagram is Dr. Huynh Thanh Tan from Vinmec General Hospital. Like Dr. Tung, Dr. Tan regularly releases easy-to-understand videos to disseminate medical knowledge, especially on psychology and mental health. Through short stories on Tiktok and long videos on YouTube, Dr. Tan has gained the trust of many people and is consulted on health issues.

Are online doctors trustworthy?
However, recently, health authorities have warned about the situation of fake doctors going online to "talk nonsense". Typically, the account "Doctor Ha Duy Tho" was discovered to be fake, without a practicing certificate but still providing health advice and selling products of unknown origin. This behavior is dangerous for patients and has been handled by authorities.
Social media today is a place where it is easy to spread false and edited information. Many people impersonate doctors on social media to attract views. Fake news about health, epidemics or disasters can easily cause viewers to panic or make wrong decisions.
Another limitation is that the content on Tiktok is often too short, making it difficult to provide complete professional information. Therefore, you should not rely solely on Tiktok to treat your illness, but should visit a doctor directly at a medical facility.
Doctor Tung advises: “When receiving information, people should take the time to find out who is sharing the information, where they work, and what their experience is to avoid receiving false information.”
In fact, when doctors use Facebook or Tiktok to share medical knowledge, they not only receive support but also face many opposing opinions from the online community. Some ignorant people may doubt the doctor's ability when the content is made in a humorous or simplified form.
Dr. Tung expressed: “Receiving negative comments or mixed reactions online is inevitable. At first, I felt hurt, lost my creative motivation and was afraid to continue sharing content. But such malicious comments were very small, thinking of many other patients who still loved and cared for me, I ignored it all and continued to contribute until today."
