Many couples who have been married for a long time without children often have the reason given by women. The story of Mr. Bui Van T (30 years old) and Ms. Mai Thu H (28 years old) shows that the reality is not exactly like that.
Mr. T and Ms. H got married in 2022. A regular married life, harmonious affection, but after many years they still have not received good news. After listening to their parents' advice, the two decided to go to the hospital for a reproductive health check.
Sharing with the doctor, Mr. T said that before getting married, the two did not conduct a premarital health check-up because in the countryside, everything was going hand in hand. The family was worried, and had gone to doctors many times to prescribe medicine for Ms. H to take, but it was ineffective. Finally, after the advice, the couple went to the hospital for examination.
The test results surprised the whole family: The cause was not his wife's, but Mr. T.'s. Doctors determined that he had no sperm in his stools due to a blockage of the fallopian tube. Immediately after that, Mr. T had to have his testicular amniotic fluid collected to find sperm and luckily the sperm could still be collected. The couple continued to perform in vitro fertilization (IVF) and Ms. H is currently pregnant with her first child.
According to the World Health Organization (WHO), Vietnam is among the countries with the highest infertility rate in the world, of which up to 50% of cases occur in men under 30 years old.
Doctor Dang Van Ha (Fertility Support Center of An Viet General Hospital) infertility is not only found in women but the rate of male infertility is also quite high. Mr. T's case is a typical example.
Statistics show that about 40% of infertility cases come from men, 40% from women, 10% from both husband and wife and the remaining 10% have not determined the cause. This shows that infertility is not only a problem for women but is also closely related to men. Notably, in recent years, the causes of male infertility have begun to receive more attention than before.
Various factors contribute to abnormalities in sperm generation and male infertility: environmental disorders, genetic disorders, inflammation, infections, medications and hormones.
Athletic causes include varicose veins and blockage of the sperm channel. In which, varicose veins are the most common and treatable cause of male infertility.
"Spermitinopulmonary blockage is a phenomenon in which the fallopian tubes are blocked in a certain location, preventing sperm from exiting during menopause. The cause can be congenital birth defects, inflammatory diseases in the sexual organs such as testicular inflammation, testicular enteritis, urethritis, prostate inflammation; complications of sexually transmitted diseases such as smuggling, Syphilis, chickenpox; tumor or injury in the sexual organs.
Many cases are only discovered when going for premarital reproductive health check-ups or late infertility check-ups after a period of regular intercourse without children," Dr. Ha analyzed.
