According to the reporter's records, as of 6:00 p.m. on October 29, the authorities of Quang Ngai province were still urgently using sandbags to cover the sewer mouth at the pumping station in the anti-landslide embankment project and renovating the landscape of the southern bank of Tra Khuc river to prevent the water of Tra Khuc river from flowing back in.
At about 2:50 p.m., Mr. Tran Phuoc Hien, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Quang Ngai province, quickly arrived at the scene and directed the repair.
According to records, at the point where the water overflowed into the inner city, the authorities mobilized an excavator and dozens of people to block the sewer mouth.
Excavators use iron plates to press on the sewer mouth. Meanwhile, workers of Quang Ngai Urban Environment Company actively poured sand into bags and transferred them to the overflow point.
According to Mr. Pham Van Nhan, project management officer, this pumping station aims to pump water from the inner city area to the Tra Khuc River. When the water level of the Tra Khuc River is low, the four floodgates are open; when the water level of the Tra Khuc River is large, the four floodgates are closed.
"When the pumping station is in operation, water is pumped from the inner city into the river. However, the water level of the Tra Khuc River is currently rising higher than the structure inside, so the river water is overflowing through the culvert. Currently, the sewer covers are being closed, so the river water will not overflow," said Mr. Nhan.
Currently, the water level on the Tra Khuc River has exceeded alert level 3.
At 10:00 a.m. the same day, the river water level at Tra Khuc station was 7.37 m, 0.87 m above alert level 3 and is continuing to rise.
