Confusion between "performance" and fertility
MSc. Dr. Le Duc Phuc, Department of Andrology, Central Military Hospital 108, said that many men believe that as long as they are "in form" in bed, have regular and fulfilling sex, having children is obvious. However, reality shows a paradox: many people have a healthy appearance, good muscles, and physiology but fall into infertility or serious weak sperm.
Most men are equating two completely different concepts: sexual ability and fertility.
According to MSc. Dr. Le Duc Phuc, sexual ability (physiology) mainly depends on the hormone testosterone, the nervous system and blood vessels, which determines desire, erection ability and sex time. Meanwhile, fertility is related to the process of sperm production in the testicles.
It is worth mentioning that a person may be very vigorous in their sex life, but the "sperm army" is weak, rare or even non-existent. This confusion makes many couples delay examining when they still have no children.
Signs of visual "deception
In fact, normal ejaculation or a large amount of semen does not mean having sperm. There are cases of infertility but still have completely normal physiological manifestations.
Doctors recommend that men should pay attention to some warning signs: Small, soft testicles: may be a sign of reduced sperm production function; Varicocele: causes a feeling of heavyness, pain and tightness in the scrotum, which is the leading cause of reduced sperm quality; Medical history: mumps with complications, ectopic testicles or hymen surgery may long-term affect fertility.
Unlike many other diseases, male infertility often occurs quietly. A man can live for decades with a healthy appearance without knowing he is having problems until he gets married.
Worryingly, the abuse of physiological enhancers or muscle-building steroids is becoming a risk factor. These substances can help improve appearance and "performance" instantly but inhibit sperm production, leading to real infertility.
Experts emphasize that to accurately assess fertility, men need to perform semen analysis. This is a simple method but gives objective results on sperm quantity, quality and mobility.
In case sperm is not detected, the doctor may prescribe additional in-depth tests.
