According to MSc.BS Pham Cong Danh - Nutrition - Diet Specialist, Minh Anh International Hospital, the trend of increasing uric acid in young people is closely related to modern lifestyles such as regularly drinking alcohol, using soft drinks, milk tea, eating fast food and being less active.

In which, alcohol and beer are one of the leading risk factors. Drinking a lot of alcohol and beer not only increases the production of uric acid but also reduces the ability to excrete this substance through the kidneys, thereby increasing the risk of acute gout attacks.

In addition, soft drinks and milk tea containing a lot of fructose can also stimulate the body to produce more uric acid if used regularly. Meanwhile, fast food is energy-rich, saturated fat and salt contribute to increasing the risk of overweight, obesity and insulin resistance - factors closely related to increased blood uric acid.

According to Dr. Danh, overweight and obesity, especially belly fat, are one of the most important risk factors. Visceral fat increases insulin resistance, causing the kidneys to reduce the ability to excrete uric acid.

Young people should proactively check for uric acid during health check-ups if they have risk factors such as overweight, obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes, high blood fat, fatty liver, chronic kidney disease or have relatives with gout.

In addition, if sudden pain, swelling, and redness appear in the big toe, ankle, or joints after drinking alcohol or eating a lot of seafood, patients need to go to a medical facility for examination and timely treatment.
