Doctor Nguyen Minh Huong, Department of General Dermatology, Central Dermatology Hospital, said that recently the hospital recorded many cases of complications after performing beauty procedures at spas, especially peel skin (chemical skin removal).
As in the case of a 20-year-old female patient, admitted to the hospital in a state of severe facial skin damage. Through clinical examination, doctors recorded that the skin around the nose, mouth and chin appeared many red patches, obvious edema, accompanied by tiny blisters containing liquid. Many blisters have ruptured, causing fluid flow, closing yellow scales, causing the patient to feel pain and severe itching.
According to the patient's account, about 6 days before being admitted to the hospital, the patient performed skin peeling at a spa facility. After the skin began to peel off, the spa instructed her to use a type of "cream" without labels, of unknown origin. Only one day after using this product, serious and rapidly progressing lesions appeared on her facial skin.
Doctors diagnosed the patient with irritated contact dermatitis. The patient was actively treated with antihistamines, applied Jarish solution, used topical corticosteroids combined with skin restoration moisturizing. After 7 days of treatment, the injury condition improved significantly: drier skin, flaking, reduced redness, reduced itching and no more pain.
Dr. Minh Huong added: peel skin (Chemical Peel) is a method of using chemical active ingredients to act on the skin to create controlled damage in the epidermis or dermis. This process stimulates the regeneration of new skin cells, increases collagen production, improves skin structure and surface, and supports the elimination of dead cells, bacteria and dirt.
The skin peel method is currently applied in the treatment of many dermatological problems such as acne, pitted scars due to acne, dark spots, post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, skin aging or keratodermic conditions. However, this is a technique that directly affects the skin surface with chemicals, so it needs to be performed at a qualified medical facility, under the supervision of a dermatologist.
Performing skin peels at unprofessional facilities or arbitrarily using products with unknown ingredients can lead to many dangerous complications such as allergies, severe irritation, prolonged post-inflammatory hyperpigmentation, bacterial, viral or fungal skin infections.
