At Ninh Binh Province Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital, since the beginning of the year, the number of patients coming for examination and suspected of having measles has increased in the past month. Doctor Vu Thi Son - Deputy Head of the Department of Infectious Diseases, Obstetrics and Pediatrics Hospital of Ninh Binh province said that in 2024, the department will not accept any measles cases for examination and treatment. However, from the beginning of 2025 to now, more than 10 cases of measles have been received, including cases of pneumonia complications.
According to Dr. Vu Thi Son, measles is an infectious disease that causes common outbreaks in children. The disease occurs all year round but is usually diagnosed in the winter-spring months. Of the 38 measles cases with residing addresses in Ninh Binh, there were 7 severe cases, 31 moderate and mild cases, no deaths from measles were recorded. There are 32/38 cases of measles that have not been vaccinated or have not been fully vaccinated.
The age of disease is mainly under 24 months old, with 17/38 patients under 9 months old, with some cases having just 2 months old developing measles.
"In the first half of March 2025 alone, Ninh Binh province recorded 18/38 cases of measles in children under 9 months old and is still showing signs of increasing the number of cases in the past 2 weeks" - said Dr. Nguyen Mai Thanh.
According to Dr. Nguyen Mai Thanh, in recent years, the rate of measles and Rubella vaccination in Ninh Binh province has always reached a high rate, in 2023 - 2024 it will reach 94.8% - 99.2%. In the first months of 2025, up to now, the health sector of Ninh Binh province has continued to be active, promoting regular vaccination, catch-up vaccination, and catch-up vaccination for subjects of the age of expanded immunization, ensuring that children are vaccinated on schedule and have 2 doses of measles vaccine in accordance with recommendations.
