In 2024, 4 drug models were detected that did not meet quality standards, 8 models were suspected of being fake, and 2 models were not allowed for circulation.
When detecting samples suspected of being fake drugs or drugs of unknown origin, the Department of Health reports to the Department of Drug Administration and proactively transfers information to the police agency to coordinate in tracing the origin, investigating and handling according to regulations.
Some typical cases, which are key, such as August 2024, through the inspection and testing of drug quality circulating on the market by the Provincial Testing Center under the Thanh Hoa Department of Health, have discovered that the Cefuroxim 500 drug sample did not meet the quality requirements for determination targets, suspected to be a fake drug.
After the Drug Administration of Vietnam - Ministry of Health inspected and concluded that it was a fake drug, the Thanh Hoa Department of Health handled the administrative violation and transferred the entire case file and evidence of the violating drugs to Thanh Hoa City Police for further investigation and handling according to their authority.
In November 2024, through sampling and testing, Cefixim 200 was sold at a number of pharmaceutical establishments in the province. After reaching the conclusion that this was a fake drug, the Department of Health organized an inspection team to handle administrative violations and hand them over to the police and market management agencies to continue investigating, tracing the origin, handling the case and violators.
From the initial information provided by the Department of Health, the police of Thanh Hoa city, Thanh Hoa province has established a project to fight, investigate and successfully solve a large -scale production and trading of fake medicines at 5 locations (a place of production, hiding goods, workplaces of subjects) in Hanoi, Can Tho City and Ben Tre Province, seized in the products of fake products, including 657 products, including 657 products Cefuroxim 500mg, 3,258 boxes of Cefixim 200mg, 100 boxes of Augxicine G, 100 boxes of Panadol Extra, 724 boxes of Panactol drugs, 1,080 Panactol bottles.
At the same time, many raw materials were seized to produce fake antibiotics, including: 2.2 tons of additives, pharmaceuticals; 1,000 leaflets on the use of Cefuroximate, 10 Panactol container shells, and many machines and equipment for the production of fake new drug pills such as: pressing machines, thick molds, glue.
On January 6, 2025, Thanh Hoa Department of Health issued Official Letter No. 83/SYT-TTr on the inspection and handling of the business of counterfeit drugs and drugs of unknown origin, including: counterfeit drugs Tetreacyclin TW3, Cloroxid TW3, cefixim 200, Fugacar; drugs of unknown origin: Sabumol, Rodogyl, Zepam, Augmentin; Official Letter No. 487/SYT-TTr dated January 23, 2025 on the inspection and handling of the business of counterfeit drugs Pharcoter, Cloroxid TW3, Tetracyclin TW3.
Through information provided by the health sector and reconnaissance and information on the situation in the field of pharmaceutical business, the professional departments of Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have discovered a number of subjects in Thanh Hoa city showing signs of buying some of the above-mentioned counterfeit products (Tetracyclin, Clorocid, Pharcoter, neo Codion) produced in other localities, regarding online sales (these subjects were not granted a Certificate of eligibility for pharmaceutical business by the competent authority).
Expanding the investigation Thanh Hoa Provincial Police have collected documents and evidence to serve as a basis for an emergency search at 06 locations of production sites, workplaces, and storage of goods of subjects in Hanoi, Vinh Phuc, Hung Yen, An Giang, Dong Thap and Ho Chi Minh City.
According to the Thanh Hoa Department of Health, as of April 22, 2025, the above-mentioned counterfeit drug production facility in Thanh Hoa province has not been discovered.
