At around 11:00 a.m. on January 9, during lunch in Trai Loc village, An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu city (Quang Ninh), 6 men ate and drank alcohol together, including: Nguyen Van Kien; Le Dinh Vui (both born in 1975, residing in An Sinh commune); Hoang Van Dien (born in 1991); Vi Van Truong (born in 1980); Cam Van Vuong (born in 1963); Hoang Van Tuoi (born in 1984, all residing in Luc Nam district, Bac Giang province).
During the meal, all 6 people ate rice with meat, beans, cabbage... All the food and white wine were bought at a restaurant in Trai Loc village. After drinking about 1 liter of white wine, 5 people including Truong, Dien, Kien, Vuong, and Vui continued to drink more wine soaked with newly dug tree roots.
After the meal ended, at around 1:00 p.m. the same day, except for Mr. Tuoi who did not drink the wine, the other 5 people showed signs of dizziness, itching, blurred vision, drowsiness, fatigue...
After that, all 5 people were taken to Dong Trieu City Medical Center for emergency treatment. However, on the way to the emergency room, Mr. Le Dinh Vui died at 3:30 p.m. the same day.
The remaining 4 people are still being treated and monitored at Dong Trieu City Medical Center.
The Department of Food Safety (Ministry of Health) received a quick report from the Department of Food Safety and Hygiene of Quang Ninh province about a suspected poisoning case due to the use of wine soaked with strange plants (taken from the forest) that occurred after eating and drinking wine in Trai Loc village, An Sinh commune, Dong Trieu city, Quang Ninh province.
Of these, 6 people ate the food, and up to now, 4 patients are being treated at Dong Trieu City Medical Center, with symptoms of headache, dizziness, and fatigue; 01 person died of unknown cause.
Faced with the above situation, the Food Safety Department requested the Department of Health of Quang Ninh province to urgently implement the following contents: Direct hospitals with patients being treated to focus all resources to actively treat patients, not to affect their health and lives, and in case of necessity, request support for professional consultation with higher-level hospitals.
Strengthen propaganda and guidance for people on food safety knowledge and measures to prevent food poisoning, to raise awareness, change behaviors and habits of using unsafe food, especially not using strange animals and plants to soak in wine.
