Ms. ALang Thi Vit, born in 1975, is a Co Tu ethnic person in Ba commune, Dong Giang district, Quang Nam province. In 2018, Ms. Vit went to Da Nang to work as a worker at Hoa Cam industrial park, Cam Le district, Da Nang city.
Ms. Vit has 1 son and 1 daughter. Currently, both of Ms. Vit's children are married and living on their own. However, both of her children's families are poor households in Dong Giang district, so even though she is nearly 50 years old, Ms. Vit still has to struggle with the hard life of a worker to maintain her life.
Ms. Vit said that before coming to Da Nang to work, she had to pay more than 800,000 VND per month for accommodation. With a salary of only more than 4.5 million VND/month, she did not have enough to live on. In 2021, Ms. Vit was moved to a worker housing area in Hoa Cam Industrial Park to live.
"Although the distance from Da Nang to Ba commune, Dong Giang district is not far, there are times when I dare not return home during Tet because the cost of transportation, gifts, and lucky money is too much for a worker's salary," Ms. Vit confided.
According to her fellow workers, every day Ms. Vit has to carry 30 plastic bags from the factory to put into the grinder. Every time she finishes her shift and returns to her rented room, Ms. Vit is almost exhausted...
Life was already difficult, but at the beginning of this year, Ms. Vit discovered that she had breast cancer and had to undergo chemotherapy at the Da Nang Oncology Hospital. Every day, every hour, Ms. Vit had to endure sharp pains in her chest, making it impossible for the female worker to do her daily activities. When we visited, Ms. Vit could only sit for a few minutes before asking permission to lie down to continue talking. Her work as a worker in the industrial park had to be put on hold, which was also what Ms. Vit was most worried about because if she quit her job, she would not have enough money to live on, and long-term treatment could easily lead to job loss.
Speaking to Lao Dong, Ms. Mac Thi Viet, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Ba Commune, Dong Giang District, said: "Previously, Ms. Vit lived alone in a temporary house in the locality. Previously, Ms. Vit worked as a farmer in the locality, so she did not have a stable income. Ms. Vit's son's family is also a poor household in the locality, and their circumstances are extremely difficult. We really hope that philanthropists and charitable organizations will extend a helping hand so that Ms. Vit can have the conditions to receive treatment."
