LD26152: 3-year-old daughter with blood cancer, poor parents hope for miracles

Quỳnh Chi |

When her youngest daughter, only 3 years old, was diagnosed with blood cancer, the life of a poor working family fell into hardship.

The lives of Ms. Luong Thi Ngoc's family (born in 1990) and Mr. Tran Xuan Thuong's family (born in 1990), in Mau Luc village, Yen Cuong commune (Ninh Binh province) were originally not well-off, but are now increasingly difficult as their youngest daughter suffers from a serious illness.

Ms. Ngoc works as a worker at a toy production facility with an income of about 8 million VND/month; Mr. Thuong works as a construction worker, earning 5-6 million VND/month. The couple frugally raises four children, of which the three older children are all obedient and study well.

The incident happened at the end of 2025, when her youngest daughter Tran Dieu Tram (born in 2023) suddenly suffered from a serious illness.

According to Ms. Ngoc, initially baby Tram only had symptoms of prolonged fever. The family thought the child had a common disease, so they took her to the local doctor for examination and treatment, however, the baby's health condition did not improve. Abnormal bruises began to appear on baby Tram's body, accompanied by nosebleeds.

On November 14, 2025, when taking her child to Nam Dinh Children's Hospital for examination, after many in-depth tests, doctors concluded that baby Dieu Tram had acute lymphocytic leukemia, a dangerous form of blood cancer. The bad news caused the whole family to collapse.

“When the doctor announced that my child had blood cancer, I didn't believe it was true. My child was too young, not yet grown up and already had to endure pain. I just hoped for a miracle to help my child recover from the disease...”, Ms. Ngoc choked up.

On the same day, baby Tram was transferred to the National Children's Hospital for intensive treatment. Since then, the hospital has become a place associated with her childhood. To take care of her child, Ms. Ngoc was forced to quit her job 4 months ago, accepting to give up her family's stable income.

In addition to Dieu Tram, the family also has three children: Nguyen Thi Ngoc Nhu (born in 2011), Luong Thi Thuy Linh (born in 2016) and Tran Huy Vu (born in 2019). Understanding the family circumstances, the children are all obedient, study hard and often help their mother take care of their younger siblings.

Currently, all living expenses, medicine, travel and treatment for his daughter are placed on Mr. Thuong's shoulders. Working as a construction worker, his income is already precarious. On days with work, he tries to work from morning to night. On rainy and windy days or when the construction is temporarily closed, the whole family has almost no income. Meanwhile, treatment costs for baby Dieu Tram continuously arise. To date, the family has spent about 150 million VND to treat their daughter, most of the money has been borrowed from banks, relatives and acquaintances.

The debt is increasingly large while the family's only source of income is increasingly tight, making the family's future even more difficult... Baby Dieu Tram's journey of fighting illness is still very long. Meanwhile, the small family in the poor countryside is struggling every day between the burden of food and clothing and increasingly large treatment costs.

Talking to a reporter from Lao Dong Newspaper, Mr. Tran Duc Lan, Head of Mau Luc village, Yen Cuong commune (Ninh Binh province) said that Mr. Thuong's family is a household in difficult circumstances in the locality.

Ms. Dieu Tram suffered from a serious illness when she was too young. Over the past time, the family has had to borrow money to treat her. We hope philanthropists will care and help so that the family has more conditions to continue treating her," Mr. Lan shared.
