It was thought that a peaceful life would pass, and the couple would work together to earn money and raise 2 children of school age, but disaster struck when the wife was diagnosed with blood cancer.
That is the situation of Mr. Le Kien Quyet (born in 1984) residing in hamlet 4, An Bien commune, An Giang province. Mr. Quyet shared that from the end of 2025 to now, his wife, Ms. Danh Thi Hien (born in 1988) was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (blood cancer) and had to be treated in Can Tho City. The family situation was only enough to eat and wear with the salary of working in the commune, but everything became even more difficult when illness suddenly came.
Mr. Le Kien Quyet is the main breadwinner in the family. Before Ms. Hien became ill, the family's life, although still lacking many things, still tried to manage smoothly. Their two children still regularly go to school, one in grade 1 and one in grade 7.
However, from December 2025, when Ms. Hien discovered the disease, all family activities began to be disrupted. The monthly income of more than 7 million VND from the commune civil servant salary was not enough for treatment costs. It is known that the house he lived in was previously thanks to the Trade Union mobilized support for construction.

Mr. Quyet recounted that the cost for each treatment course, including specific drugs and blood transfusions, ranges from 15 to 20 million VND. This is an amount exceeding his family's income capacity. To have money to treat his wife's illness, Mr. Quyet had to borrow from many places, mortgaging his only rice field. However, maintaining long-term treatment is still a very difficult problem.
Mr. Quyet choked up and confided: "When I saw my wife pale and tired and went for an examination, receiving the results from the hospital in Can Tho, I was stunned, unable to believe my eyes and even more heartbroken when I heard the doctor explain that my wife's condition was very serious. My wife was originally very hardworking, always taking care of the family, taking care of raising children so that I could feel secure to go to work. Now my wife's illness is like that, she is very weak. I try my best but cannot afford it because the treatment costs are too high.
Not only facing economic pressure, Mr. Quyet also has to face daily worries when his wife is being treated far from home. Two young children are currently at home, their studies and daily life are somewhat affected. When he and his wife go for treatment in Can Tho (at least once a month, about 2 weeks each time), he has to send his children to his aunt to help with care.
Besides loving and worrying about my wife, I am also very afraid that I will not be able to afford to take my children to school, and the two young children are at risk of interrupting their studies, which is my biggest concern. Currently, I am still trying my best, trying my best, in my heart I never want my children to drop out of school," Mr. Quyet confided.

Ms. Thi Hong Nhanh - Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the commune, Secretary of An Bien Commune Youth Union said: "Currently, Ms. Danh Thi Hien is still continuing treatment in Can Tho, while the family's economic capacity is almost exhausted. Treatment is still prolonged, costs are still high, and community care and support are needed to help the family have more conditions to overcome difficulties, stabilize their lives and continue their education for their children.
