The Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee has just agreed on a list to honor 60 outstanding individuals in the cause of building, protecting and developing Ho Chi Minh City in the period of 1975 - 2025. Among them, there are 7 artists who are famous names and have made many contributions to the community.

Mr. Huynh Tri Ba (famous for Bay Ba, composer of Vien Chau)

Author Vien Chau was born in 1924, died in 2016. He is a People's Artist, a famous artist, and a rider and composer. He was the one who gave birth to the genre of neo-classical Ca Luong, which is the combination of neo-music in ancient soul. He has trained many generations of famous artists.

He was known to the press as the "king of kings of the cai luong kings", "the person who made the names of artists", because through his compositions, many artists became famous when performing; many of his plays on stage made the audience emotional such as "Chuyen tinh Lan va Diep", the ancient song "Xuan Dat Duong".

Artist Diep Minh Chau

Painter - sculptor Diep Minh Chau was born in 2019, passed away in 2002. He was former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City Fine Arts Association.

He composed thousands of paintings and statues. Regarding the theme of Uncle Ho - he has more than 200 works, many of which are famous: Uncle Ho by the water-ored stream; Uncle Ho with children in bronze placed in front of the headquarters of the City People's Committee (now at the City Children's House).

He has participated in more than 50 solo and collective exhibitions at home and abroad.

Ms. Truong Phung Hao (NSND Phung Ha)

People's Artist Phung Ha was born in 1911, died in 2009; was a pioneer in the field of Bai Luong singing and Cai Luong.

She is a female flute artist of Chinese origin; considered one of the founders of the Vietnamese flute art movement; her life has been associated with this art movement and left her mark with many different roles.

She is not only an artist with an excellent voice and sophisticated acting, but also has trained many generations of artists, many of whom have achieved the title of People's Artist. She proposed to buy land and build an Artist Pagoda in Ho Chi Minh City to serve as a resting place for artists on the island.

Professor Tran Van Khe

Professor Tran Van Khe was born in 1921, and died in 2015. He is a famous music professor and doctor in the world and in the country with many rare works.

He was the first person to introduce and teach traditional Vietnamese music around the world, proposing that the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism build a dossier on performing arts to submit to UNESCO, honoring it as an intangible cultural heritage that needs to be urgently protected; contributing to making gongs recognized as an intangible heritage of humanity. He left HCMC with many valuable musical documents.

People's Artist Kim Cuong

People's Artist Kim Cuong was born in 1937. She is the founder and head of the Diamond Speech Group; Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front 2009 - 2024; Member of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, 9th tenure; Vice President of the Association for the Protection of Poor Patients, People with Disabilities and Orphans in Ho Chi Minh City.

She is a playwright, film actress, composer, screenwriter, and the leader of the playground of the Golden Eagle, famous since before 1975. In performing activities from cinema to cai luong, especially in plays, she became the most typical phenomenon of success in her career as a composer and performer.

The classic work that made her famous was the play "The durian River" (she played the main role and composed). She is a typical example for the stage artists of Ho Chi Minh City and the country, not tired in social charity activities to care for disadvantaged children, the disabled and poor artists...

Musician Xuan Hong

Musician Xuan Hong was born in 1928, died in 1996. He was the General Secretary (Chairman) of the Ho Chi Minh City Music Association, Hero of the People's Armed Forces

He participated in the revolution since 1949; he is famous for his compositions: shirt-sewing songs; Spring War Zone; The scarves; The plowing on the Bom Bo village...

After 1975, he held the position of Head of the Department of Cultural Arts and Stage Arts Department, Vice President of the Arts Association. He has many good compositions about spring such as: Spring Faces, Spring photos, Four seasons of the City of Flowery gardens, Saigon Sun, Spring by the window... He wrote the song Spring in Ho Chi Minh City in 1978 and won the Ho Chi Minh Prize for Literature and Arts (2005).

Musician Trinh Cong Son

Musician Trinh Cong Son was born in 1939, and passed away in 2001. He is considered one of the biggest musicians in modern music, on the list of Vietnamese music artists with the most best-selling records.

His music is performed by many singers, making his name associated with hundreds of his songs. In addition, he is also considered a poet, painter, actor, and singer.

At noon on April 30, 1975, he went to Saigon Radio Station to sing the song "Connecting a big arm", speaking, calling on the people of the South to support the Provisional Revolutionary Government of Southern Vietnam.
