Alex Eala's journey at the US Open has ended, but this star is preparing for the busy final stage of the WTA Tour season.
Eala competes a lot in the hard court series in North America, where she is said to be in her best form in her career to date.
She won the Washington Open, then reached the top 16 at the Canadian Open and the 32nd round at the Cincinnati Open.
This 21-year-old player has the best record ever at the US Open when she reached the 3rd round, where she lost after 3 sets to her friend Iva Jovic.
Now, she will prepare for the WTA Tour series of Asian tournaments, but is expected to miss one of the biggest tournaments, China Masters, to participate in ASIAD (Asian Games).
In the post-match press conference at the US Open, Eala explained the reason why she decided to represent the country instead of participating in the China Open.
Before that, I thought I would be at the Singapore Open. But yes, I really like to compete and compete with the Philippines team.
You know, I used to participate in the SEA Games and ASIAD. I found it a really interesting environment and I like being with my teammates, especially at the recent SEA Games in December.
I had a great time and those are really memories that will be with me forever. Moreover, ASIAD only takes place every 4 years, and I feel like I really want to compete there rather than other things".
Eala won 6 medals at the SEA Games when representing the Philippines, including a gold medal in the singles event at the 2025 Games in Thailand.
She also won 2 bronze medals at the 2022 ASIAD in Hangzhou, in both singles and mixed doubles.
Eala did not participate in the tournament in China last year, so she will not be deducted any ranking points at this Masters level tournament.
However, she may face a penalty from the WTA Tour because this is one of the mandatory tournaments that players must participate in.
WTA Tour stars are expected to participate in all Masters tournaments – except for injuries – as well as 3 WTA 500 tournaments throughout the season.
The Singapore Open takes place from September 21 to 27, the Chinese Masters from September 28 to October 11, while the ASIAD from September 19 to October 4.
