After reaching the final of the Shanghai Masters 2024, Novak Djokovic was named Jump of the Week in the race for a ticket to the ATP Finals in Turin.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion made a strong comeback at the tournament in China after being eliminated early at the US Open.
Despite losing to Jannik Sinner in 2 consecutive sets, Nole has accumulated an additional 600 points, helping him increase some places in the ATP Race, to 6th place. Thanks to that, the 37-year-old tennis player has the opportunity to qualify for the ATP Finals for the 17th time in his career.
The Serbian tennis player has won the ATP Finals 7 times with a record of 50-18 (74% win rate).
Up to now, only 3 tennis players have secured a place in the 2024 ATP Finals. Leading the way was Jannik Sinner (10,330 points), followed by four-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz (6,710) and French Open runner-up Alexander Zverev (6,215).
With only a few weeks left until the season is over, the current benchmark to be present at the year-end event is 4,945 points.
A total of eight players are eligible to compete in the event in Turin, Italy, from 10 to 17 November. At this time, after 3 players have secured their positions, the closest qualified person is Daniil Medvedev of Russia, with 4,820 points, only 125 points away from qualifying.
However, this number may decrease depending on the results in the final weeks of competition. The former world No. 1 is almost certain to qualify, as only something unusual could keep him out.
In fifth place is 2024 US Open runner-up Taylor Fritz (4,290 points). Although still quite far from the qualifying round, nearly 700 points, Fritz still has the ATP 500 Vienna Open and the Paris Masters, the final Masters 1000 tournament of the year, ahead.
Djokovic's strong week in Shanghai has helped him enter the qualifying group for the first time since the beginning of the year. Nole started the season solidly when he reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open, but limited participation in tournaments afterwards and early elimination in events he attended prevented him from reaching the Top 8.
Nole has 3,910 points and will have his final tournament at the Paris Masters, where he is the all-time champion with seven titles between 2009 and 2023.
He is followed by Casper Ruud (3,805 points). The Norwegian has had an unstable season, but with his success on clay - winning the ATP 500 in Barcelona and reaching the Monte-Carlo Masters final - he has a chance.
The 8th place is an open competition, with Andrey Rublev (3.580) temporarily ranked 8th. He was followed by Alex De Minaur (3.305), Grigor Dimitrov (2.935), Tommy Paul (2.885) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (2.835).
A strong performance in the coming weeks could see anyone through to the ATP Finals, although Rublev still has the best chance.
