After qualifying for the 2024 Shanghai Masters final, Novak Djokovic was named “Jump of the Week” in the race for a place in the ATP Finals rankings in Turin.
The 24-time Grand Slam champion made a strong comeback at the tournament in China after an early exit at the US Open.
Despite losing to Jannik Sinner in straight sets, Nole has accumulated 600 more points, helping him move up a few places in the ATP Race to No. 6. Thanks to that, the 37-year-old tennis player has the opportunity to qualify for the ATP Finals for the 17th time in his career.
The Serbian tennis player has won the ATP Finals 7 times with a record of 50-18 (74% win rate).
As of now, there are only 3 players who have secured a place at the 2024 ATP Finals. Leading the way is Jannik Sinner (10,330 points), followed by 4-time Grand Slam winner Carlos Alcaraz (6,710) and French Open runner-up Alexander Zverev (6,215).
With just a few weeks left until the season ends, the current benchmark for qualifying for the year-end event is 4,945 points.
A total of eight players have qualified for the event in Turin, Italy, from November 10 to 17. At this point, after three players have already secured their spots, the closest to qualifying is Russia's Daniil Medvedev, with 4,820 points, just 125 points away from qualifying.
However, that number could drop depending on results in the final weeks of competition. The former world No. 1 is almost certain to qualify, as only something unusual could prevent him from participating.
In fifth place is the 2024 US Open runner-up, Taylor Fritz (4,290 points). Although still quite a distance from qualifying, nearly 700 points, Fritz still has the ATP 500 Vienna Open and the Paris Masters, the final Masters 1000 tournament of the year, ahead.
Djokovic's strong week in Shanghai saw him qualify for the first time since the start of the year. He made a solid start to the season with a semi-final appearance at the Australian Open, but a lack of tournaments since then and early exits at the events he played kept him out of the top eight.
Nole has 3,910 points and will have his final tournament at the Paris Masters, where he is the all-time champion with 7 titles from 2009 to 2023.
Right behind him is Casper Ruud (3,805 points). The Norwegian has had an inconsistent season, but his successes on clay - winning the ATP 500 in Barcelona and reaching the Monte-Carlo Masters final - give him a chance.
The eighth spot is open competition, with Andrey Rublev (3,580) provisionally ranked eighth. He is followed by Alex De Minaur (3,305), Grigor Dimitrov (2,935), Tommy Paul (2,885) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (2,835).
A strong showing in the coming weeks could take anyone to the ATP Finals, although Rublev's chances remain the best.
