Apple has expanded the Record Mode feature - a smart recording mode - to ChatGPT Plus users on macOS, after this version was first introduced to corporate users last month. The feature is now available in the ChatGPT app on Mac for global Plus subscribers.
Record Mode creates a small rec button in the chat interface. When pressed, the app will record audio from a meeting, call or voice note on the system, without having to join the call as a separate presenter.
After finishing the recording, the audio data is sent to the OpenAI server, where the content is automatically translated and converted into notes with structure, summaries, action sections and timestamp markers.
The recording session is limited to 120 minutes and the original recording is automatically deleted after completion. The translated content is then saved to files in the chat history, users can access it to extract the main idea for email, report or use as context in later dialogues.
OpenAI also issued a notice of security and legality, recommending users to comply with local recording laws and ask for permission from all parties before recording.
Currently, this feature is only available on macOS, OpenAI has not announced plans to expand to Windows or mobile version.
