Citizen Protection Bulletin No. 2 on the earthquake situation in Kumamoto (Japan) dated July 29 of the Vietnamese Ministry of Foreign Affairs clearly states:
Regarding the earthquake that occurred on July 28, 2026 in Kumamoto Prefecture, Japan, according to information from the Vietnamese Consulate General in Fukuoka, so far 1 Vietnamese citizen has died and some Vietnamese citizens have been injured in the earthquake.
Immediately after receiving the information, Vietnamese representative agencies coordinated with local functional agencies, companies, trade unions and families of victims to verify information and implement citizen protection measures; and at the same time sent officials directly to the scene to work with relevant agencies, support families with necessary procedures according to regulations and ensure full rights and legitimate interests of citizens as well as visit and encourage Vietnamese citizens working at businesses and neighboring areas.
For citizens injured and houses damaged by the earthquake, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan have coordinated with the Vietnamese Association in Kumamoto to understand the situation, directly visit, encourage and coordinate support for affected cases. In the process of protecting Vietnamese citizens affected by the earthquake, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan also recorded and praised many examples of Vietnamese citizens who actively participated in supporting the community in their localities.
In the coming days, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan will continue to closely coordinate with functional agencies of Kumamoto Prefecture and Vietnamese associations to continue reviewing the situation of citizens and promptly implement necessary protection measures for affected Vietnamese citizens.
The Japan Meteorological Agency recommends that people pay attention to possible earthquake aftershocks in the next 1-2 weeks. Vietnamese citizens in Kumamoto need to monitor and comply with the instructions and warnings of local authorities, Vietnamese representative agencies in Japan and Vietnamese associations.
