On March 13 (US time), 5 US Air Force refueling aircraft were hit by Iranian missiles at Prince Sultan Air Force Base in Saudi Arabia, according to information from the Wall Street Journal citing two US officials.
These aircraft were damaged when Iran launched a missile attack on the base in recent days. The report said the aircraft were not completely destroyed and are being repaired. No casualties were recorded in the attack.
Meanwhile, the US is launching attacks targeting military targets on Iran's Kharg Island. US President Donald Trump said that the US military has destroyed all military targets on this island but has not attacked oil infrastructure.
Kharg Island is Iran's main oil export center, which processes about 90% of the country's oil exports. The island is located about 483km northwest of the Strait of Hormuz.
Mr. Trump warned that the US could target oil infrastructure if Iran continues to hinder the traffic of ships through the Strait of Hormuz. This route is where about 1/5 of global oil is transported.
The US President also affirmed that Iran has no ability to defend against US attacks and called on Iranian military forces to lay down their arms.
Amidst the escalating fighting, Iran launched more missiles and drones aimed at Israel. Iranian drones were also recorded flying into Kuwait, Iraq, the United Arab Emirates, Bahrain and Oman.
The Israeli military said that its air force attacked more than 200 targets in western and central Iran in one day, including ballistic missile launchers, air defense systems and weapons production facilities.
US forces also suffered losses in the region. The US military confirmed that all 6 crew members on a refueling plane that crashed in western Iraq were killed.
