Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev on August 10 condemned Russia's airstrikes on Azerbaijani oil and gas facilities in Ukraine, and affirmed that energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine will continue.
The information was stated by Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev during a phone call with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky.
"In the phone call, both sides condemned the deliberate airstrikes by Russia on the oil storage facility owned by SOCAR Azerbaijan in Ukraine, as well as other Azerbaijan facilities and an air compressment station for transporting Azerbaijan's gas to Ukraine. The sides emphasized the belief that these strikes will not hinder energy cooperation between Azerbaijan and Ukraine," the statement from the office of the President of Azerbaijan stated.
Earlier this week, Russia attacked a SOCAR-owned oil storage facility and a gas pumping station used to import liquefied natural gas (LNG) from the United States and Azerbaijan in the Odessa region of southern Ukraine.
In July, Ukraine tested gas pumping from Azerbaijan via the Transbalkan pipeline for the first time. Ukraine has also announced plans to significantly increase gas imports from Azerbaijan.
In the context of the Russia-Ukraine conflict, Ukraine's infrastructure and energy facilities have been frequently attacked. Russia has stepped up drone and missile attacks on Ukrainian cities and towns in recent months.
