Poland sends fighters to monitor Russian aircraft due to a series of unusual signs

On October 29, Poland said it had sent two fighter jets to monitor Russian reconnaissance aircraft flying across the Baltic Sea after detecting some unusual signs.

According to the Polish military, the Russian IL-20 did not announce its flight plan when communicating via radio and turned off its transponder when approached by the Polish air force.

Polish fighters have monitored the IL-20 aircraft performing reconnaissance missions in international airspace, did not announce the flight plan and turned off the fighter jet. The plane did not affect Polish airspace - the announcement on X from the Polish Armed Forces Combat Command stated.

The announcement added: "Thanks to high combat readiness, the professionalism of the pilots and the effective operation of the air defense system, the campaign was carried out quickly, effectively and safely".

Protecting Polish airspace is not only a duty but also a daily task of Polish soldiers, who are always dedicated to protecting the security of our country - the Polish Armed Forces Combat Command concluded.

The Russian II-20 aircraft was then escorted by two Polish fighters out of the area.

Speaking on local television, the spokesman for the Combat Command, Mr. Jacek Goryszewski, emphasized that this incident has proven that "Poland is always vigilant to ensure its airspace is not violated".

Russia has not commented on the incident.
