The latest typhoon news on the afternoon of July 21st said that Typhoon Fausto has strengthened into a Category 1 hurricane and is forecast to continue to maintain this intensity as it moves towards the central Pacific basin.
The latest storm in the Pacific has maximum sustained winds of 120 km/h, equivalent to a weak Category 1 hurricane. Thus, Fausto has become the first hurricane in the eastern Pacific in the 2026 hurricane season, according to the US National Hurricane Center (NHC) in Miami.
Storm Fausto is moving northwest at a speed of nearly 15 km/h, with strong typhoon-level winds extending up to 40km from the center of the storm and tropical storm-level winds extending up to 313km, storm forecasters said.
In the next 2 days, Fausto is expected to strengthen into a Category 2 hurricane, peaking on July 22, with maximum sustained winds of 177 km/h.
After that, storm Fausto is expected to gradually weaken as it moves through increasingly cold waters and enters a drier and more stable environment, the storm bulletin stated.
By July 25, the last day of the 5-day forecast period, Typhoon Fausto is expected to approach the central Pacific region, reaching weak Category 1 hurricane intensity and maximum sustained winds of 129 km/h. It is forecast that the typhoon will continue to weaken as it moves into the central Pacific region next week.
