The hometown of architect Arata Isozaki in Otai, Aichi Prefecture, is home to a display of his first works, including a medical room and accessories, and a provincial library. Mr. Isozaki said that the bombing of Hiroshima became an unforgettable memory in his mind and it motivated him to follow the architectural path.
He is the 46th Pritzker Prize winner and the 8th Japanese architect to receive the honor. With in-depth knowledge of history and architectural theory, and a pioneer, he will never simply recreate the current situation the organizing committee said. Isozaki will be awarded a $100,000 prize in May.
