Typhoon forecasters at the Joint Typhoon Warning Center predict that Typhoon Ba Vi will strengthen into a Category 5 super typhoon on the US scale on Sunday, July 5, as this typhoon is likely to begin a rapid intensification phase in the next 24 hours.
According to forecasts, the storm will have maximum winds of at least 260 km/h in the 5-day forecast period while passing through the Mariana Islands.
Typhoon Ba Vi appeared in the context of tropical depression 10W (Philippines name is Henry) operating in the East Sea.
This system is 561km south of Hong Kong (China) and has moved northwest at a speed of 28 km/h in the past 6 hours.
According to JTWC forecasts, 10W is expected to land on the southeast coast of Hainan Island, China in about 36 hours. After passing through Hainan Island, this system will reappear in the Gulf of Tonkin, continue to move northwest, landing for the second time in southern China, right in the eastern area of the Vietnam - China border in about 36 hours.
