The southern and eastern regions of the Netherlands - which experienced the highest temperatures during the heat wave, recorded 576 deaths. People aged 80 and over accounted for 547 deaths, exceeding normal levels and increasing the highest among all age groups.
This agency said that the cause of these deaths has not been determined, but hot weather is very likely to affect. People must always be vigilant about the impact of hot weather on health.
According to RIVM, the elderly and people with chronic diseases are particularly vulnerable to extreme heat conditions, and note that higher levels of air pollution during the heat wave may have put more pressure on these groups.
Data from the Royal Dutch Meteorological Institute (KNMI) shows that the temperature from June 22 to 28 skyrocketed, with the highest recorded temperature reaching 39.4 degrees Celsius.
Temperatures in many areas of the Netherlands are still higher than the seasonal average. Since July 11, the Dutch National Institute of Public Health and Environment has activated a national hot weather response plan in 7 central and southern provinces and called on healthcare providers and human resources to support vulnerable groups.
