The first nuclear power plant installed on the lunar surface is expected to be ready by 2030, according to Mikhail Kovalchuk - Chairman of the Kurchatov National Research Institute.
Previously, this Russian scientist emphasized that any country or organization that finds a way to provide stable energy on the Moon will have a great advantage in the race to conquer the Earth's natural satellites.
We have completed the design for extra-terrestrial power stations, which could be deployed on the Moon. According to the plan, we will complete the first nuclear power plant to be installed on the Moon by 2030, said Mr. Kovalchuk.
In February this year, at a plenary session at the Future Technology Forum, Mr. Kovalchuk reported to Russian President Vladimir Putin that the Kurchatov Institute, in coordination with the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Rosatom Nuclear Energy Corporation, is developing advanced technologies to deploy and operate specialized power generation stations on the Moon.
These technologies include the non-electric plasma rocket engine, which is expected to be used for future spacecraft to serve missions to the Moon and Mars.
