Energy cooperation is an essential part of the China-Russia comprehensive strategic partnership. Russia overtook Saudi Arabia to become China's largest crude oil supplier last year.
Also last year, according to Russian Deputy Minister of Energy Sergey Mochalnikov, Russia exceeded the plan to supply gas to China through the Power of Siberia pipeline by 800 million cubic meters, reaching 22.7 billion cubic meters. . In 2025, the supply is expected to reach 38 billion cubic meters - equal to the design capacity.
Mr. Mochalnikov noted that, according to data as of July 1, 2024, a total of 68 billion cubic meters have been pumped through Siberian Power since the launch of this gas pipeline.
Power of Siberia is the largest gas transportation system in eastern Russia. In the coming years, Gazprom's total exports to China will reach 48 billion cubic meters/year.
Russia and China are also implementing the Power of Siberia 2 super gas pipeline project through Mongolia with a capacity of about 50 billion cubic meters per year - Gazprom CEO Alexey Miller said.
Mr. Miller also said that China is considering the possibility of increasing Russia's gas supply through Siberian Power beyond its design capacity of 38 billion cubic meters.
