Iran announces plan to support ships passing through the Strait of Hormuz

Iran said its ports are ready to provide technical, service and medical support to commercial ships in the Strait of Hormuz.

On May 6 (local time), IRNA news agency reported that the Iranian Maritime and Port Authority announced its readiness to support commercial ships operating in the Strait of Hormuz.

The information was released in an official announcement sent to the captains. According to this document, Iranian ports are ready to provide services and technical support, as well as medical support for commercial ships in the area.

Iran's statement was made in the context that the Strait of Hormuz continues to be a maritime hotspot. This is one of the most important sea transport routes in the world, especially for oil and cargo transportation through the Gulf.

Recently, the situation in this area has been tense due to military operations, blockades and security warnings related to ships. Many commercial ships are said to have difficulty moving through the Strait of Hormuz, while related countries have continuously issued statements on ensuring maritime safety.

According to the announcement released by IRNA, Iran wants to affirm that its seaport facilities are capable of supporting commercial ships when necessary. However, the document does not specify which ports will participate, what the reception process is, or the conditions for commercial ships to be supported.

This move also shows that Tehran wants to show its role in maritime operations in the Strait of Hormuz. Iran has repeatedly affirmed its responsibility to ensure security and safety for its sea route adjacent to its territorial waters.

However, in the context of regional tensions not yet cooling down, statements related to ship operations in the Strait of Hormuz are still being closely monitored. Any disruption on this maritime route could affect sea transport, energy supplies and the global oil market.

There is currently no further information on whether any commercial ships have requested Iran's support or not. The Iranian side has also not announced details about the size of forces, equipment or the maintenance time of this support mechanism.
