The Israeli army has launched a fierce attack on the city of Gaza, killing 123 people in the past 24 hours, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health. This is the highest death toll in a week, continuing the tragedy of the land of more than 2 million people after nearly 2 years of conflict.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu reaffirmed his view that Palestinians should leave Gaza, an idea also supported by US President Donald Trump. Mr. Netanyahu said that countries interested in Palestinians should open their doors to welcome them instead of criticizing Israel. Many Arabian and international leaders have strongly opposed it.
Israel plans to re-oclaim Gaza City in the next few weeks, but a ceasefire is still possible despite the stalemate in negotiations. Israeli aircraft and tanks have destroyed many houses in Zeitoun, Shejaia and eastern Khan Younis areas. Al-Ahli Hospital said 12 people died in an airstrike in Zeitoun. In the central area, 9 search and rescue workers were shot dead in 2 separate incidents.
In Cairo, Hamas negotiation chief Khalil Al-Hayya met with Egyptian officials to discuss an end to the conflict, humanitarian aid and reduce suffering for the people. The Egyptian security source said the discussions could include a full-scale ceasefire, in exchange for Hamas' abandonment of control and surrender of weapons.
According to the Israeli military, nearly 320 aid trucks have entered Gaza in the past 24 hours through the Kerem Shalom and Zikim border gates, along with 3 fuel tanks and 97 parachute trucks. However, the United Nations and the Palestinian side have confirmed that the aid is still not enough.
The conflict began on October 7, 2023, when Hamas and armed groups advanced into southern Israel, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostages, according to Israeli data. Since then, Israel's military campaign has killed more than 61,000 Palestinians, according to local health officials.
