Not afraid of Russia's reaction, the UK widely provides weapons to Ukraine

The UK has pledged to provide Ukraine with 100,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), expected to complete the transition before April next year.

On June 4, the UK government pledged to provide Ukraine with an additional 100,000 unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), expected to complete the transfer before the end of the current fiscal year in April 2026.

The UK government confirmed that this is the largest number of UAVs to date since the Russia-Ukraine conflict broke out in 2022, 10 times more than in 2024.

According to information from the UK Government, this UAV aid package is worth 350 million pounds ($473 million), part of a £4.5 billion military aid package that London has given to Kiev this year.

At the upcoming meeting of the Defense Group of Ukraine (UDCG) in Brussels ( Belgian) with the participation of 50 countries, British Defense Minister John Healey will also announce a plan to spend an additional 247 million pounds this year to train the Ukrainian armed forces.

Healey also said that the transfer of 140,000 artillery shells to Ukraine has been completed since the beginning of 2025 to enhance combat capability for frontline units.

Previously, on June 2, the UK Ministry of National Defense announced that it would maintain an annual aid of £3 billion ($4 billion) to Ukraine, to affirm the UK's long-term commitment and role in the international arena.

According to the Kiel Institute (Germany), the total value of the UK's support to Kiev from 2022 to present is about 15.16 billion euros (17.2 billion USD), of which more than two-thirds is military aid.

Notably, UAVs are also the type of weapon that Ukraine used in the " spider web" attack on many Russian military airports on June 1.

London's increased support for this type of equipment at a sensitive time has led analysts to question the level of calculation in current UK-Russia relations as well as Moscow's next reaction to the move.

Meanwhile, Russia has repeatedly warned that Europe's continued supply of weapons to Ukraine will only prolong the conflict and not even change the situation on the battlefield.

Speaking to the UN Security Council on May 30, Russian Ambassador Vasily Nebenzya stressed the important role of a ceasefire in resolving the conflict, but noted that Russia would only accept it if the West stopped arms assistance to Kiev and Ukraine ended all military recruitment activities.
