According to the China National Meteorological Center, a weak cold air wave affected central and eastern China on January 27, causing temperatures to drop from 3 to 6 degrees Celsius, and above 8 degrees Celsius in some localities.
This cold air wave will quickly spread from most of northwestern China to northern China, the Huangxi and Jianghan regions.
In the next 2 days, the focus of the temperature drop will shift south. The cold air mass will have a stronger impact on northern China, where temperatures in most areas will temporarily drop below the seasonal average.
After this cold air mass passes, another cold air mass is forecast to arrive from January 29-31, with temperatures dropping from 4 to 8 degrees Celsius across the northwestern, central and eastern regions of China, with some areas decreasing by about 10 degrees Celsius.
Meanwhile, rain and snow are expected to increase nationwide throughout this week. From January 27, light snow or ice will move from west to east. According to NMC, it is forecast that there will be light rain in Jianghan, Jianghuai, Jiangnan and southern China, as well as Guizhou, with moderate rain in some areas.
According to information released by the Xinjiang Autonomous Region Meteorological Department, cloudy and snowy weather has reduced visibility on some roads, causing danger to traffic and agriculture, and calling for increased precautions in some areas north of Xinjiang.
Mr. Ma Quan, Director of the Institute for Public and Environmental Affairs, said that the current snowfall in northern China is mainly due to reverse snow melting, a common phenomenon at this time of year. This phenomenon occurs when cold air masses moving south are blocked by mountains, enter the northeastern plains, and then spill into the northern plains of China.
From January 29 to 31, it is expected that there will be light to moderate snowfall or ice in the eastern areas of the Qinghai Highlands - Tibet, the eastern northwestern region of China, northern China, the Hoang Hoai and Jiang Hoai regions, as well as western Hubei and northwest Hunan.
For Vietnam, this week there will also be 2 times of cold air intensifying down to the North. On January 27, an intensified cold air wave with weak intensity, deviating from the east will affect the North. The Northeast region in the early morning of January 27 will have light rain, drizzle and scattered fog. Cold weather, mountainous areas in some places are very cold.
On January 28th, warm sunshine gradually appeared, the temperature in the North increased to 19 - 23 degrees Celsius, feeling more comfortable during the day.
By January 30-3, weak cold waves will move down again, causing light rain to return.
