A Turkish private plane carrying a group of young women from the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to Istanbul, Turkey crashed in the Iranian mountainous region on March 11 due to heavy rain that killed 11 people.

Iran's state broadcaster quoted a spokesperson for the country's emergency management agency as saying that the plane crashed on a mountain near Shahr-e Kord and caught fire. The Shahr-e Kord area is about 370km south of the capital Tehran.

Spokesperson Mojtaba Khaledi added that local people had gone to the plane crash site in the Zagros mountains but only saw the charred bodies, with no survivors.

According to Iranian officials, authorities need DNA testing to identify the victims of the plane crash.

Local people said they saw the fire in the engine before the plane crashed.

Data from FlightRadar24 shows that the plane took off on the afternoon of March 11 and about an hour later suddenly dropped sharply in altitude within just a few minutes. The plane just took off from Sharjah International Airport, according to the UAE Civil Aviation Authority.

Turkey's Dogan news agency identified the plane as Bombardier CL604, tail number TC-TRB, owned by Basaran Holding. According to information on the website, Basaran Investment Holding company operates in the food, finance, energy, construction, tourism and transportation industries.

According to Hurriyet, the passenger on the plane was Mina Basaran - the 28-year-old daughter of Basaran Chairman, a member of the company's board of directors and a manager of the business and 7 of her friends.

AP reported that Mina Basaran recently posted on Instagram photos that were said to be a bachelorette party in Dubai. Among those photos was a photo of the plane posted three days earlier and another photo inside the plane.

A day earlier, Mina Basaran posted a photo with 7 friends at a resort in Dubai. The most recent videos posted on social media accounts were when she attended Rita Ora's concert at a famous nightclub in Dubai. Since then, there has been no further action on the account of Basaran's daughter.

According to Iranian state broadcaster IRNA, Iranian officials said that all the passengers were young women.

The crash came less than a month after an Iranian plane crashed in the south of the country, killing 65 people.
