The transfer of advanced maritime technology between the US and the Philippines reflects the increasingly deep commitment of the US to regional security.

The US has handed over 4 Ocean Aero Triton (AUSV) underwater self-propelled vehicles to the Armed Forces of the Philippines in a deal worth $13 million.

The US Embassy in Manila said that the handover ceremony took place at Subic Naval Base with the presence of officials from the two governments and representatives of the Philippine Navy.

Triton self-propelled submarine systems run on solar energy, are capable of operating continuously for up to 30 days and collecting data both above and below the sea surface.

US Ambassador to the Philippines Bridgette Walker said at the handover ceremony: "The four AUSV Ocean Aero Triton vehicles that we are handing over today represent the important thing: the future of maritime security lies not only in the platforms but also in capacity, speed and reach".
