The US is temporarily suspending the processing of immigration visas from 75 countries and territories indefinitely.

The temporary suspension of immigration visa processing that the US has just announced will apply to countries including Brazil, Colombia, Egypt, Haiti, Somalia and Russia.

This move expands the immigration tightening campaign of President Donald Trump's administration

The suspension of application for immigration visas, such as labor visas or family reunification visas in the US.

Non-immigrant visas such as student visas and tourist visas will not be affected by this suspension and therefore will not affect those who want to come to the US to watch this summer's World Cup.

The suspension takes effect from January 21, a US official said.

The US temporarily suspends indefinitely the processing of immigration visas from 75 countries and territories announced after the US State Department last year directed strengthening surveillance under the "public burden" clause of the immigration law targeting those that the Donald Trump administration believes will become a burden on public resources.

The State Department will use its long-standing authority to consider potential unqualified immigrants who will become a burden for the US and take advantage of the goodwill of the American people" - State Department spokesman Tommy Pigott stated in a statement on January 14.

The processing of immigration visas from these 75 countries will be temporarily suspended while the Ministry of Foreign Affairs re-evaluates immigration procedures to prevent the entry of foreign citizens intending to receive welfare benefits and public support," he added.

Some countries and territories affected by the suspension of visa processing have been included in the government's expanded entry ban list.
