According to VNA, on August 10, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker said that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky could attend the US-Russia summit this week in Alaska (USA), in the context that European leaders are pushing for Kiev to participate in negotiations to end the conflict.
In an interview, Whitaker said President Zelensky was likely to appear at the meeting, but noted that "there cannot be an agreement without all parties involved agreeing".
The holding of a summit to find a way out of the conflict in Ukraine without the presence of a Ukrainian leader has raised concerns about the possibility of a deal that would require Kiev to cede part of its territory.
Meanwhile, the Ukrainian leader has held phone calls with 13 partners in the past 3 days, including the main supporters of Kiev, Germany, the UK and France.
In recent statements, the European Union (EU) affirmed that all peace agreements must have the participation of Kiev and European powers, rejecting the scenario of forcing Ukraine to cede territory in exchange for peace.
Any agreement between the US and Russia to end the conflict must have Ukraine and the EU, as this is a security issue for Ukraine and all of Europe, said senior EU foreign policy spokeswoman Kaja Kallas.
Ms. Kallas affirmed that she will convene an urgent meeting of EU foreign ministers on the afternoon of August 11 (local time), with the participation of Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andriy Sybiga.
