On August 13 (Washington time), US Vice President JD Vance said that maintaining low oil and gas prices for the American people is Washington's top goal in the conflict with Iran.
In an interview with the press, Mr. Vance said that oil prices have now decreased significantly compared to the high recorded in the early days of the conflict.
I know oil prices are falling and are now much lower than the peak in the early days of the conflict. The number one goal is to keep oil and gas prices low for Americans across the country," Vance said.
He said the second goal of the US is to prevent Iran from possessing nuclear weapons.
Then, of course, the second goal is to ensure Iran never gets nuclear weapons," the US Vice President said.
Mr. Vance also expressed his belief that the US can achieve both goals.
I think the conflict will end with the US in a strong position, Iran without nuclear weapons and the Strait of Hormuz returning to a state where oil and gas prices are stable for the American people," he said.
Mr. Vance's statement placed energy prices and nuclear security at two key positions in Washington's goals for the conflict with Tehran. In which, oil prices are directly related to energy transportation through the Strait of Hormuz, a strategic shipping route connecting the Persian Gulf with the Gulf of Oman and the Arab Sea.
Developments in the Strait of Hormuz have attracted special attention since the conflict began, as this is one of the world's most important oil and gas shipping routes. Any prolonged disruption on this shipping route could affect energy supplies and oil prices in the international market.
