On August 10, according to TASS news agency, US Permanent Representative to the United Nations Mike Waltz said that the issue of frozen assets is of particular interest to Iranian negotiators in exchanges with the US.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Waltz said that Iranian representatives have repeatedly mentioned the need to access cash and the country's assets are currently frozen by the US.
Iranians are now more afraid of Finance Minister Bessent than War Minister Hegseth," Mr. Waltz said. He shared that Iran is constantly demanding access to cash, access to assets that have been frozen by the US.
The information was released in the context of US-Iran relations continuing to strain after military operations and efforts to reach agreements between the two countries.
According to TASS, the US and Israel began a military campaign against Iran from February 28. By June, the US and Iran signed a memorandum of understanding on an immediate ceasefire on all fronts, including Lebanon.
However, by the early morning of July 8, the US resumed large-scale airstrikes against Iran. Washington accused Tehran of violating previous agreements related to the Strait of Hormuz.
The Strait of Hormuz is mentioned in the context of prolonged disagreements between the US and Iran. According to TASS information, the US accused Iran of violating agreements related to this strategic shipping route before resuming airstrikes.
Meanwhile, Mr. Mike Waltz's new statement focused on another issue in bilateral relations, which is Iran's assets being frozen by the US. The fact that Iranian negotiators have repeatedly mentioned cash and assets shows that financial issues are being included in exchanges with the US.
Currently, Iran has not responded to Mr. Waltz's statement.
