Speaking on Air Force One when leaving South Korea, Mr. Trump revealed that the talks between him and Chinese President Xi Jinping have repeatedly mentioned the issue of Ukraine. We have been talking for quite a while, Trump said.
Trump said that both leaders acknowledged that both Russia and Ukraine seem to be stuck in conflict and sometimes have to let them resolve it themselves, but noted that Chairman Xi Jinping expressed his willingness to support finding a way out of the conflict.
The US president added that he did not ask the Chinese president to stop buying Russian oil, despite previously pledging to raise the issue during the meeting.
Also on October 30, speaking in Busan City (South Korea), Mr. Xi Jinping said that Beijing and Washington should "cooperate to achieve more practical and meaningful results, for the benefit of both countries and the whole world".
As the world is facing many serious challenges, China and the US can shoulder the responsibility of the superpowers together, the Chinese leader said.
Mr. Xi Jinping commented that Mr. Trump is very enthusiastic in finding a way to resolve global conflicts, while emphasizing that China always supports peaceful dialogue as a way to solve the crisis.
In August, Xi Jinping said that China's stance on the Ukrainian conflict would not change and that Beijing would continue to encourage negotiations "regardless of the situation". He also noted that complex problems cannot have simple solutions.
According to Russian media, since the Ukraine conflict escalated in February 2022, Russia and China have increased cooperation, with Beijing becoming Russia's largest oil buyer after the West imposed a series of sanctions on Moscow. The two countries are currently describing bilateral relations as unlimited strategic partnership.
