On the morning of October 30, US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping held a summit in Busan, South Korea.
Speaking before entering the bilateral meeting, President Donald Trump expected a "very successful meeting" with Chinese President Xi Jinping, stressing that both sides "always have a good relationship".
President Donald Trump also revealed before entering the meeting room that a trade deal between the US and China is likely to be reached.
When asked if the two sides plan to sign the deal on October 30, Mr. Donald Trump said: "Maybe. We all know each other very well."
For his part, Mr. Tap Can Binh expressed his "very happy to meet" Mr. Donald Trump. He said he has been on the phone and exchanging letters with Donald Trump three times since Donald Trump was re-elected US president.
"It is normal for the two world's leading economies to sometimes have disagreements," said Mr. Xi Jinping, adding that both China and the US should "maintain the right direction."
Mr. Tap Can Binh noted that he has repeatedly emphasized publicly that China and the US "should be partners and friends". "This is what history has taught us, and is also a requirement that reality sets," he said.
The Chinese leader affirmed his readiness to continue working with President Trump to build a "healthy atmosphere" for the development of both countries.
Before entering the talks, Mr. Tap Can Binh also praised Mr. Donald Trump's "very enthusiastic" participation in hot issues in the region, and highly appreciated the "huge contribution" of the US President to the signing of the recent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
"During his visit to Malaysia, he witnessed the signing of the Joint Statement of Peace on the Cambodia - Thailand border, in which he actively contributed to this document" - Mr. Xi Can Binh said about Mr. Donald Trump and emphasized that China is also participating in supporting the settlement of border disputes "in accordance with its actual situation".
Chairman Xi Jinping added: "We are also trying to promote peaceful dialogue to find solutions for other hot spots".
The last direct meeting between President Donald Trump and President Xi Jinping took place in 2019, at the G20 summit in Osaka, Japan.
In this US-China summit, each side has 7 attendees.
On the US side, President Trump was accompanied by Secretary Marco Rubio, US Trade Representative Jamieson Greer, Secretary of the Treasury Scott Bessent, Secretary of Commerce Howard Lutnick, White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles and US Ambassador to China David Perdue.
