Mr. Michael George DeSombre - US Assistant Secretary of State for East Asian and Pacific Affairs - announced the aid amount at a meeting with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet at the Palace of Peace in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, on January 10.
Mr. DeSombre came to Cambodia to help strengthen the ceasefire agreement between Cambodia and Thailand.
He announced that the US will provide 15 million USD in aid to support families displaced along the border of both countries, as well as 10 million USD for the clearance of mines and unexploded ordnance (UXO) in Cambodia" - a statement from the spokesperson of the Cambodian Prime Minister's Office said.
Mr. DeSombre announced that the US will provide $10 million in aid to support Cambodia's capacity building efforts in combating online fraud," the statement added.
For his part, Prime Minister Hun Manet reaffirmed that Cambodia always values peace and resolutely commits to resolving border issues by peaceful means, in accordance with international law, treaties, conventions and bilateral agreements.
He expressed hope that the US will continue to promote both Cambodia and Thailand to fully implement the ceasefire order to ensure people return home safely as well as ensure the resumption of the joint committee on land border demarcation to conduct surveys and land border demarcation as a foundation for long-term peace.
Cambodia and Thailand have agreed to a ceasefire on December 27, 2025 after 3 weeks of armed conflict, causing casualties to both sides.
