The updated notice on passports and visas from the US Embassy in Vietnam on the evening of August 12 said that the US is continuing to review the new model of Vietnam's violet- purple passport issued from July 1, 2022 to determine whether this passport meets the requirements for issuing US visas and travel.
"A decision on this is expected soon," the US Embassy's announcement said.
According to the US Embassy, first of all, to avoid interruption, from August 15, 2022, all Vietnamese citizens applying for settlement and non-resident visas need to pay attention to the instructions of the Embassy.
Specifically, for Vietnamese citizens who are preparing to submit documents, when filling out the application for a DS-160 or DS-260 visa, they need to ensure that they fill in information about their place of birth. Do not fill in the hometown or place of birth registration but fill in the name of the province or city and the country of birth.
For those who have a new purple passport issued from July 1, 2022, the US Embassy stated that Vietnamese citizens should request the competent authority to supplement the information about the place of birth to ensure the information about the place of birth in the new passport.
For those who have an interview schedule, when going to the interview, they must bring their birth certificate. If there is no original birth certificate but an old passport (green cover) with birth information, the new passport must be brought with it.
"If the defendant has a new model passport, we especially recommend that the defendant request the competent authority to supplement information about the place of birth of the defendant before the interview date" - the US Embassy in Vietnam added.
