The Admiral Kuznetsov airport ship was moored on one of the world's largest PD-50 floating bays while undergoing refreshment over the ice in the Kola Bay near Murmansk, near where the Russian Northern Fleet is operating. This floating island has a load capacity of up to 80,000 tons.
While submerged on October 30, two bridge cranes collapsed, one of which fell to the aircraft carrier, leaving a 4x5m hole in the deck. However, vital parts of the ship were not affected.
After the incident, the Admiral Kuznetsov aircraft carrier was towed to another shipyard in Murmansk for further repairs.
Images posted on November 4 show the crane still lying on the deck. However, the camera angles of the photos do not clearly show the holes in the deck.
The maintenance team will soon decide the best way to handle the crane after completing a thorough investigation into the incident.
On October 30, the shipbuilding company that operated the floating island said that there was a power outage that caused the water tank of the floating island to quickly increase and sink.
The Admiral Kuznetsov airport ship was taken out of the water before it completely sank. 4 employees fell into the ice and were treated.
The Admiral Kuznetsov Airport began service in 1991 and is the only aircraft carrier model of the Russian Navy, and also the largest aircraft carrier. Admiral Kuznetsov, a member of the North Sea Squadron, can carry more than 40 fighter jets and helicopters on the deck.
