Upgrade and strengthen relationships
In 2024, Vietnam made significant strides in its diplomatic relations, notably through upgrading relations with a number of key partners. During General Secretary To Lam's official visit to Malaysia (November 22-23), the two countries agreed to upgrade their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Previously, the working trip of General Secretary and President To Lam to pay a State visit to Mongolia and Ireland, attend the 19th Francophone Summit and pay an official visit to the French Republic (September 30 - October 7) created many important historical marks, establishing the Vietnam - Mongolia Comprehensive Partnership and upgrading the Vietnam - France relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.
Within the framework of the State visit to China by General Secretary and President To Lam (August 18-20), the two sides issued a Joint Statement on further strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Cooperative Partnership, deepening the building of the Vietnam-China Community of Shared Future, which has strategic significance, contributing to peace, stability and development in the region and the world.
The relationship between Vietnam and Australia was also upgraded to Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in March 2024 during the working trip of Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh to attend the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit and pay an official visit to Australia and New Zealand.
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that the enhancement and upgrading of relations with key and important partners, along with vibrant high-level foreign affairs activities, is a strong step in implementing the foreign policy of the 13th National Party Congress, when our country is facing a new era, an era of the Vietnamese nation's rise.

The participation of President Luong Cuong and the Vietnamese delegation at the APEC Summit Week in Peru in November 2024 continues to affirm Vietnam's commitment to APEC cooperation, ready to contribute more to peace, cooperation and development of Asia - Pacific and the world, of which Vietnam hosting APEC 2027 is a clear demonstration. The President's sharing at the APEC Summit Week once again conveyed a strong message about a Vietnam entering a new era, an era of national growth, a dynamic, innovative Vietnam and a leading destination for international investors. Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son affirmed that Vietnam is always ready to contribute more to peace, cooperation and development.
Diplomacy for development and international integration
In serving development and international integration, along with mobilizing important resources for development such as FDI, ODA, foreign affairs, diplomacy has contributed to making Vietnam a link in many regional and global economic links by signing and participating in important economic agreements and frameworks. At the same time, the diplomatic sector has actively coordinated closely with ministries and branches in promoting international integration in the fields of security - defense, society, culture, science - technology..., bringing Vietnam into the general flow of the world.
At the Green Economy Forum 2024 in Ho Chi Minh City in October 2024, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son emphasized that Vietnam is determined to build a green and sustainable economy. Affirming the motto "promoting internal strength is fundamental, strategic, long-term, and decisive; external strength and the power of the times are important and breakthrough factors", Deputy Prime Minister and Minister Bui Thanh Son said that Vietnam has been flexible, creative, but also very determined in implementing measures to promote green economic development.
Diplomacy in the New Age
Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Son said that in the coming time, the world situation will continue to have many major changes, with opportunities and challenges intertwined. In that context, the most important goal and task of the diplomatic sector is to maximize and continue to consolidate the favorable foreign affairs situation, bring the country into the flow of the times, create breakthroughs to successfully implement the strategic goals until 2030 and 2045 set by the 13th National Congress.
Entering a new era, an era of the Vietnamese nation's rise, the Deputy Prime Minister affirmed that the diplomatic sector will continue to innovate its thinking and actions, advise and develop new solutions to supplement the Party's foreign policy and guidelines, both effectively serving security and development interests, enhancing the country's position, and contributing to building a fair international order, ensuring the legitimate interests of countries, including Vietnam.
