    Hai Phong - In the grounds of An Da Temple (Hai Ba Temple, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong) is famous for its unique ancient tree, over 400 years old.

    An Da Temple in Dang Giang Ward, Ngo Quyen District, Hai Phong, was recognized as a city-level historical and cultural relic since 2019.

    Local people and people around the area also call An Da temple by the familiar and respectful name Hai Ba temple, which means the temple worships two Holy Mothers: one is the general of Female General Le Chan, the other is the Queen of the Later Le Dynasty.

    In the An Da temple grounds, there are many lush ancient trees, the most prominent of which is a large ancient tree about 420 years old.

    In October 2015, the banyan tree in An Da temple was recognized as a Vietnam Heritage Tree.

    The banyan tree is nearly 1 meter in diameter and 15 meters high. From the base to the trunk, it is rough and bears the marks of more than 4 centuries of existence.

    For over 400 years, the frangipani tree has been blooming beautifully, its light fragrance spreading throughout the ancient temple grounds, lingering with visitors who come to offer incense, visit, and enjoy the scenery here.

    The canopy of the tree covers more than 200 meters, casting shade over the temple yard. Under the tree is a statue of a “stone tiger” – a symbol of strength, power and luck. On the 15th and 1st of the lunar month every month, many people come to burn incense and visit An Da temple, not forgetting to light incense under the ancient tree to pray for luck and peace.

    In addition to the 400-year-old banyan tree, in the An Da temple grounds there are many ancient trees hundreds of years old such as the banyan tree and the Bodhi tree on both sides of the temple gate, adjacent to An Bien lake road. The system of ancient trees contributes to enhancing the ancient and sacred beauty of the ancient temple in the heart of Hai Phong city.
