The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature has been awarded to Han Kang - a South Korean author.

The Nobel Prize in Literature was awarded to 53-year-old South Korean writer Han Kang for works that "face historical trauma head-on, exposing the fragility of human life".

Her famous works include: The Vegetarian, The White Book, Human Acts and Greek Lessons.

The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature winner began his career with a series of poems published in South Korean magazines before publishing a collection of short stories in 1995.

She then began writing longer works, most notably The Vegetarian—one of her first books to be translated into English.

Although many of the main characters in Han Kang's works are women, her literary works are often told from a male perspective.

According to CNN, Han Kang is the first Korean author to win the Nobel Prize in Literature and the 18th woman out of 117 recipients of the award since 1901. The most recent woman to win the Nobel Prize in Literature was Annie Ernaux of France in 2022.

The 2024 Nobel Prize in Literature was announced in Sweden on October 10, with a cash prize of 11 million Swedish kronor ($1 million).
