Ms. Harris would make history for the United States if she became the first female president, and the first person of color and of foreign origin. Mr. Trump would also make history in the United States if he were to be re-elected president, having succeeded twice in three consecutive presidential campaigns.
This year’s presidential election in the United States is also considered historic in other ways, such as because the views expressed by Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris in their election platforms are not only different but also contradictory and have very few similarities. Mr. Trump is no longer the US president of the past 4 years, while Ms. Harris is not a copy of current President Joe Biden in terms of policy views and governance style.
Looking at the results of public opinion polls in the US in recent times and in recent days, the general picture is that Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris are chasing each other very fiercely and the gap between them is very close.
Anyone can win or lose. But the polls in the US presidential election are no longer very reliable. Along with the presidential election on November 5, there will be re-elections for all 435 members of the House of Representatives, 34 of the 100 members of the Senate, governors in 15 states, and referendums on specific issues in 7 states.
According to recent public opinion polls in the US, the Democratic Party's prospects for victory in the House and Senate elections are not as bright as those of the Republican Party.
This year’s presidential election in the United States is full of drama. The months after that until the president-elect is officially inaugurated will be the same because Mr. Trump may not accept defeat if he loses. And if he wins, it will paralyze the administration of Mr. Joe Biden and Ms. Harris for the remaining days of their reign.
No matter who becomes the new president of the United States, the outside world will be strongly affected with many differences compared to the time of Mr. Biden's US presidency.
Mr. Trump will certainly quickly erase or reverse the policies that Mr. Biden has implemented. Ms. Harris, if she takes office, will probably only inherit and continue some individual policy areas, not all of them, from her predecessor.
America is now at a crossroads, and whichever way we turn, there is great uncertainty ahead, both for America and for the world beyond America.
