Politico reported that on February 16, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the US and Israel shared a view on how to handle the situation in the Gaza Strip when US Secretary of State Marco Rubio began his trip to the Middle East, amid concerns about Washington's initiatives for this devastating territory.
Mr. Rubio is expected to visit the United Arab Emirates (UAE) and Saudi Arabia on this trip.
Speaking at a press conference with the participation of Foreign Minister Rubio, Mr. Netanyahu pledged that he would no longer let Gaza become a threat to Israel. Prime Minister Netanyahu also stressed that the US has close cooperation and clear support for Israel.
At a meeting between the two leaders of the US and Israel, Mr. Netanyahu said he had discussed with Mr. Rubio about US President Donald Trump's "dazzling vision" on the future of Gaza and how to realize that plan.
Earlier in February, Trump said the US would take over the Gaza Strip and turn it into a coastal resort. According to the US president's plan, Gaza's population will be transferred to neighboring countries. However, Arab states have opposed the proposal.
On the side of Secretary Rubio, he commented that President Trump was "Couraged and visionary" when coming up with the above idea.
Mr. Rubio admitted that Mr. Trump's proposals could "shock and surprise" many people, but still affirmed that the endless conflict in Gaza or as he said it was a "current" that needed to end.
Also at the meeting, Mr. Rubio and Mr. Netanyahu discussed the situation in Iran, Syria and Lebanon.
