On January 16, French Finance Minister Roland Lescure warned that any attempt to occupy Greenland would cross the "red line" and could damage economic relations between the US and Europe.
In an interview, Mr. Lescure sent a warning message to US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, and said that European countries are expressing deep concern about the escalating tensions related to Greenland in recent days.
However, Minister Lescure avoided answering questions about the possibility of the EU imposing sanctions if the US occupies this island, only saying: "If that happens, we will step into a completely different world and be forced to adapt appropriately.
However, Mr. Lescure noted that regarding trade tariffs and the management of technology corporations, Europe still needs to continue to cooperate with the US, despite disagreements with Washington on Greenland.
Previously, on January 15, French President Emmanuel Macron announced that France would participate in joint exercises with Denmark in Greenland.
Many sources familiar with the matter said that Denmark has begun to transfer military equipment and elite units to this autonomous territory, where people express their desire to continue to be attached to the kingdom.
On the same day, according to many international reporters present at the scene, the first soldiers from European countries were present in Greenland.
