The West was stunned by Russia's launch of the new Oreshnik hypersonic missile, comparing the significance of this step to the launch of the first Soviet satellite into orbit - Professor Richard Wolf, an American economic expert, commented on the program on the YouTube channel Dialogue Works.
"Look what happened. We saw the emergence of an advanced technology, a completely new type of Russian rocket. The West was stunned. But why? What was the reason? Western observers compared it to 1957, when Russia was the first country to launch a satellite into orbit," Sputnik quoted Professor Richard Wolf as saying.
According to Professor Richard Wolf, the Americans were convinced that after the collapse of the British Empire and after World Wars 1 and 2, the United States was forever the “center of the universe”. But the demonstration of the capabilities of the Oreshnik hypersonic missile surprised and worried them, because it meant that their belief in American military technology as the “ultimate choice” was also shaken. That is why they continued to escalate the situation in Ukraine, Professor Wolf concluded.
Russian President Vladimir Putin said that on November 19, Ukraine attacked targets in Kursk and Bryansk provinces with long-range American ATACMS missiles and British-made Storm Shadow long-range missiles.
In response to that move, on November 21, Russia launched an attack on Ukraine's military-industrial complex - a large industrial complex specializing in the production of missiles and weapons in Dnepropetrovsk.
One of Russia's newest medium-range hypersonic missile systems, the Oreshnik, has been tested in real combat conditions. In this attack, the hypersonic ballistic missile did not carry a nuclear warhead. President Putin noted that Russia has a number of systems similar to the Oreshnik that are being tested.
